Ah, yes, the whisky dinner. Probably the event format we’ve hosted the most. This type of production takes quite a bit more careful planning, but the results can be stunning as the perfect food pairing makes a good whisky unforgettable.
We can coordinate simple food pairings such as cheese and charcuterie, but to attack the full dinner, things should be chef-driven. If you’ve ever spent time amongst a kitchen brigade, you’ll know that whisky is a fan favorite. The blueprint for the night starts with a tasting session, introducing the chef to each expression.
The best events we’ve done involve a chef that already has pairings in their repertoire. When it comes to the perfect pairing, there are some time-tested guidelines – always with exceptions! For example, lighter whiskies pair nicely with raw fish and citrusy dishes. Mid-to-elderly sherried whiskies pair nicely with red and game meats with heavier glaze. Smoky whiskies go great with salty things, smoked fish and chocolate.
On the big night, Whisky Inc ensures all of the preparations are perfect. We provide Scottish crystal Glencairn glasses and mountain spring water droppers. Flights are pre-poured at each seat with a custom tasting mat tailored to your organization, along with a commemorative tasting booklet with information to take home about each expression.
The event always begins with a Welcome Cocktail to get your guests in the mood to taste. The tasting proceeds course-by-course, leaning on the expertise of a well-oiled kitchen crew. We tie things together with dessert and coffee service, often accompanied by a final surprise dram of great rarity. This is when the toasts happen – and we do have some zingers!
